Video rental giants Blockbuster are now waiving the retreat flag as the US department of Blockbuster announced plans to close an astonishing 282 stores in the U.S. this year. This is due to many under performing stores and focus on its online rental service to compete directly with the online DVD rental company Netflix.

The UK department of Blockbuster is in a sorry state as trusted video game website Justgames.tv reported today that Blockbuster are on the edge which cant be good right now for Blockbuster employees. The US company Blockbuster, inc on the 3rd of March have hired lawyers to file for bankruptcy. Blockbuster have a huge worldwide appearance in the DVD, video rental market with stores all over the USA, South America, Europe etc… It could be a huge loss for Blockbuster employees if things turn sour. Another company effected by the credit crunch.

Write Your Idea Down NOW!
The very first thing you need to do is start. It’s a frightening proposition, but the potential profits – both financial and personal – are extremely lucrative. So start today – right now, even! If you have a great idea for a new business or a new web site, write it down. There are several reasons for this, not the least o f which is to capture that idea.
Don’t let this happen to you. Many people have wonderful ideas they believe will never leave them. Sometimes even in as little as an hour later, the idea has faded. Oh, it’s still there… in its own way . . . but it just doesn’t feel as urgent or as viable. Write your idea down while you’re at the peak of your enthusiasm. In fact, go one step further: begin writing out a business plan as soon as possible. Take that idea and do everything in your power to make it seem as real as possible. Write down the steps you think you’ll need to take to get this idea up and running as a full-fledged business.
The sooner you start treating your idea as a living, breathing corporate entity, the sooner you’ll be able to see it materialize. And you know what that means? Yep, the sooner you’ll be making money from it.

You’re frustrated with your current job. I can see it in your eyes . . . and tisk, tisk, in the words you’re using to describe your boss! (You probably shouldn’t be using language like that – at least not within earshot of him!) You’ve threatened to start your own business before, but this time you’re serious. And frankly it’s about time!.
Of course, it’s a huge step. Yes indeed, one wrong move could hurt your new venture. But think about what happens when you take all the right steps and the plan comes together. It’s ’so long, boss, and ‘Hello, business world!’ That’s why you need to arm yourself with as much knowledge as you possibly can before you jump into anything.

Launching a new business is a bit like learning to cook fancy home-cooked meal. It may seem intimidating when it’s your first time, but until you have all the ingredients and how to follow directions, you’ll be a master chef in no time! Most people who seek to branch and starting a business simply do not have the proper ingredients or components they need for their activities on earth. One of the first problems in terms of raising the necessary capital to start their business. There are many options such as using your own personal savings or a small business loan.

The next ingredient to throw in your recipe is how much money you will need before you ask a small business loan. Recipes call for discipline, others call for a cup full. It all depends on what type of business you will be running. If you do not already have it included in a certain type of business plan, what you should do is determine what all your business expenses are and how much they cost. Looking for price for all the equipment you need, the amount of rent your property, payroll, and the purchase of the company itself.

You must also assess what you can use collateral when applying for a loan to small businesses.
One option that you have to collect money for your company is using unsecured loans. An unsecured small business loans is a loan that is not any kind of guarantee for the loan. Some examples of unsecured loans are things like credit cards, friends or family, not lines of credit.
This can be a great risk if your company should fail or if you lack the money to repay the loan, as you could lose your home. Another source of warranty, you can use is the equipment your company uses. The terms of your small business loan depends largely on small and large business, or how many years you’ve been doing business.
These are just some of the essential ingredients you need to build a business from scratch and make it a success. With careful planning and good research, you’ll soon be on your way to be your own boss.

Woolworths, the high street chain has reported group losses of almost £100 million for the six months to the start of August 2008.

Sales for the retail business were £660.7 million in the half-year, down 3.2% on a like-for-like basis, while the company’s entertainment wholesale and publishing arm – including its BBC Worldwide joint venture 2entertain – posted flat sales of £446.3 million.

Overall group losses of £99.7 million compared with a deficit of £63.8 million a year earlier. Operating losses for the retail business, which trades from around 800 stores in the UK, were £69.5 million.

While the group generates the majority of its business in the run up to Christmas, it is thought that the current credit crunch will affect sales this year.

Last month the Woolies board rejected an offer for about £50million for its 815 stores from investment group Baugur and the founder of the Iceland food chain Malcolm Walker.

The chain, which has more than 800 stores in the UK, has been squeezed by the supermarkets, the specialist players and online retailers.

Like the majority of other British retailers it has also suffered as consumers curb spending due to higher fuel, food and mortgage costs.

He still lives with his parents and has bemused friends by spending 20 years perfecting a tiny plastic strap.

But inventor Andrew Harsley has had the last laugh after a £36m deal has made him the biggest success story yet from TV show Dragons’ Den.

Viewers of the BBC2 programme watched Mr Harsley secure a £150,000 investment for the ‘Rapstrap’, a reusable polyurethane band that can tie up bin bags, cables, plants and saplings.

Now, one of the world’s leading plastics distributors has ordered 1bn of the plastic straps, which have been billed as the ‘next generation cable tie’.

Over the next three years, the deal will net £36m for Mr Harsley and Dragons James Caan and Duncan Bannatyne, who made a joint bid for 50% of his firm.

The 35-year-old, from Grantham in Lincolnshire, said: ‘I am over the moon. This has changed my life.

‘When I first came up with the idea, I could not believe someone else hadn’t thought of it. There’s a lot of waste with the nylon cable tie. The Rapstrap does the same job but is four times more effective in terms of cost and wastage.

‘We are using as many nylon cable ties as we are carrier bags in the UK, so that is a huge amount of plastic going into landfill each year.

‘It is not a sexy product but it taps into the environmental issue, which a lot of big companies are taking seriously.’

Although Mr Harsley first came up with the idea when he was a teenager putting out the rubbish, it was only after university that he began seriously to research and develop the Rapstrap.

Mr Harsley, who survives on just a few hundred pounds each month, has lived with his parents Gillian and John in their £110,000 semidetached house in Grantham for the past 14 years.

He said: ‘My personal life – marriage and children – has suffered because I put all my energy into this. Everyone has been supportive but it has taken a frustratingly long time to get things off the ground.’

However, the entrepreneur has no plans to treat himself with his new fortune. ‘I’m not going to spend it on cars or anything,’ he added. ‘I just want to build up the business.’

Mr Caan said last night that the Rapstrap had the potential to be as successful as ‘Cat’s Eyes’.

‘I always find the simplest ideas tend to do very well,’ he added. ‘It’s a simple one but the point is no one else had come up with it.’
